#WritersCoffeeClub March 17. What's an experience or sensation you've struggled to convey to a reader?

A: I was trying to get the experience of someone starting to experience their afterlife haunting a river. Wrote something like “being underwater, realizing he didn’t even need to breathe, felt more suffocating than drowning.”

#WritersCoffeeClub day 14: Do you think readers want new experiences in structure or narrative, or do they prefer what's familiar?

Suppose it depends on the reader. John Grisham has sold pretty well. But Machado’s “In the Dream House” has its fans, and it’s far better than his interchangeable novels. Just no movie deal.

I can only say that in my collection, I tried to vary it. In absence of a single plot, what might keep folks going is wondering how the next story will be handled.

Tired and discouraged by computer stuff (job search & book), I decided to do something physical.

These are satisfying because I just work with what I have (newspaper adverts). No resizing, no skewing, no layers or undo. Perspective created by relative size. Mistakes covered by wax.
